August During this month, while AP remains at Twickenham, Gay visits Bath with Lord Burlington. September 3 (Sun) AP now visiting Oxford, where he is staying with George Clarke at All Souls. He writes to Jacob Tonson, Jr, about 1721 6 15 25 26 45 leaving the business side of the Works of Buckingham to Alderman John Barber, and about the division of scenes for the Shakespeare edition.

12 By this date, AP has read the revised second edition of Anne Dacier's 1719 French translation of The Iliad, where AP's Preface to The Iliad is attacked. 13 In the wake of the Buckingham suppression, AP accepts Lord Harcourt's advice to suspend solicitation for Odyssey subscriptions.
